An extension to a house in the Czech Republic Architecture 10.02.2022 SENAA architekti studio faced a problem: the equipment could not drive up to the site where it was necessary to reconstruct the house. Therefore, the architect had to erect a light structure made of glass and wood. The house is located in a cozy alley, where construction equipment cannot pass. Therefore, the architects had to abandon the original plan for the reconstruction of the house and erect a light structure on the site of the old sheds. The design corresponds to the size and shape of the house and accommodates an open living room in a glass box, as well as a sauna with a relaxation area in a separate annex built on the roof. The lower level is made of a steel frame with large glazing, and the upper lightweight “house” is made of wood. These two structures made it possible to significantly expand the area of the cottage: the bedroom, bathroom and toilet remained in the old brick part, and in the new one there is a living room, a bicycle storage area under a small canopy, as well as a sauna and a mini-pool on the terrace overlooking the surrounding area. SENAA architekti architects paid special attention to the decoration. Inside, the plaster has a pleasant texture — it is not polished and is not covered with an additional protective layer. And the exterior treatment of the walls and facade is made according to the Japanese technology of firing wood Shou Sugi Ban. This treatment protects against insects, moisture and prolongs the service life of wood.
