Miniature chapel in Italy Architecture 10.04.2022 Architects from Studio 120 grammi built a small memorial chapel made of anodized aluminum and concrete. Ksenia Oshchepkova Alessandra Bello The founders of Studio 120 grammi, Carlo and Nicola Pavan, have completed a project in the genre of private memorial architecture. In the cemetery of the small town of Porcellengo near Venice, they installed a minimalist chapel made of brutal materials. The compact building is located against the wall and has an area of only 14 m2. To ensure a comfortable passage inside the building, the architects came up with an asymmetric portal in its corner part. In addition to the textured concrete from which the chapel walls are assembled, the architects chose panels made of anodized aluminum with an expressive patinated surface. They covered the inner walls of the building with them. Thinking over the project, the architects sought to create a spiritual space in which it would be possible to reflect on the passage of time. That’s why they picked up materials that will age beautifully. A skylight in the gable roof also creates a meditative mood, which allows the sun’s glare to move slowly along the ornamental walls and floor of the chapel. The light well, through which a piece of the sky is visible, and the light falling into it serve as a symbol of the parishioners’ dialogue with God. Original content from the site
