In the oldest town of the Tyrol region, the Italian Bressanon, a building has appeared, the laconism and restraint of which distinguishes it from the background of historical development. This is a music school designed by Carlana Mezzalira Pentimalli studio. The authors managed to create an emphatically modern image, which, despite the formal differences, logically fits into the urban environment of Bressanone.

The school building is a key element of the future new quarter, which the city authorities plan to build in the near future. On the north side of the school there will be an underground parking lot with a square on the roof, on the south — an area with an additional parking floor underground. The underground passage will connect the city center, the Verticale climbing wall and the Aquarena outdoor pool with the main thoroughfare Via Brennero. The school building located exactly in the middle plays an important role in the formation of a single public space on the border of different zones.

The architecture of the music school also has a unifying function in relation to the geology of the site, which is characterized by a strong height difference. The architects partially cut the three-storey building into the hill and surrounded it with a wall painted in the color of the facades. The solution gives the complex unity, provides the school with a convenient courtyard and makes the building less heavy and monumental. The building is shifted to the depth of the courtyard, and its facades only slightly peek out from behind the outer wall, without radically changing the panorama of the city.

The authors of the project emphasized the block architecture of the school with the help of monochrome finishing. They carefully selected a soft brown-pink shade of concrete, which echoes the tiled roofs of historic houses. Rhythmic rows of rectangular windows and openings, delicate diamond-shaped ornament on the facades and thoughtful proportions give the laconic building elegance. The architects made the public spaces inside the school spacious and bright, adding comfort with the help of soft shell chairs, wooden panels and plain curtains.
