Floating hotel in Belgium

An unusual hotel has appeared on one of the lakes of Flanders: its rooms are located on rafts, and you can get to them exclusively by canoe or boat.

Tobias Knockaert and Kika Merlin from STAAV realized that people really lack adventure, especially after quarantine. Therefore, we decided to design an unusual hotel that will give visitors a new experience. It was called Vlotkamp, which literally translates as “camping on rafts”.

They built eight raft modules, forming a small village on the water. On each of them there is a tent-room, which can only be reached by boat or canoe.

The modules are located in different parts of the lake and are fixed only on one side, so it is likely that guests will fall asleep and wake up with different views, since the wind will constantly change the position of the raft. Nevertheless, they are strong enough to withstand strong summer storms.

The rafts are made of recycled blue barrels, and are also equipped with expired tires that allow you to protect the canoe from impacts when mooring.

Inside there are double mattresses with lots of cozy pillows, two armchairs and a small table on the terrace with a view of the lake. In addition, there is a compact toilet in the room.
