Ziedlejas Spa Resort in Latvia Architecture 21.02.2022 Open AD Studio has built a health resort in the Latvian city of Sigulda with compact houses made of Korten steel and glass. The Ziedlejas Spa Resort includes several separate guest houses, an underground glass sauna facing the pond, as well as another sauna hidden in the middle of the forest. The architects of Open AD worked together with Landscape studio Landshape to combine all these independent structures into a single whole and connect them with winding paths. Since Ziedlejas welcomes guests all year round, it was important for architects to find materials that are suitable for both hot summers and cold winters, and will also look beautiful at different times of the year. The ideal choice was Korten steel, resistant to temperature changes and changing its shade over time. Three guest cabins are located right on the slope, and a glass sauna, partially submerged underground, is at its base. The facade is finished with wood, which is processed according to the Japanese technology of firing wood Shou Sugi Ban. The charred layer helps protect the building from humidity, insects and even fire. The interiors of the houses are also inspired by the Japanese lifestyle: there are a minimum of things here, nothing distracts from the rest, does not irritate the eye. The interior is dominated by natural materials: wood, linen, cotton. In the glass part of the cabin there are bedrooms and relaxation areas, and in the private part there are bathrooms.
