Climate Research Center in Greenland

The research center is located near the Arctic Circle and is designed to study climate change. The building will be accessible not only to scientists, but also to visitors who want to see and feel the scale of the Arctic wildlife.

A team led by the Danish architect Dorte Mandrup worked on the design of the complex structure. The Bureau presented a design with a winding triangular structure that demonstrates openness and at the same time stands out minimally against the rocky landscape.

It was necessary not to cause damage to the environment, so the architects slightly raised the building with the help of light steel beams. Thus, the space under the center remained free for plants and wild animals.

In the center there is an open observation deck with a view of the icebergs of the Kangia ice Fjord. The building itself is completely glazed so that visitors can see the impressive changes in light. “Greenland has only daylight in summer. It is very dark in winter, but there is a reflection from the snow and the ground,» says Mandrup. — In summer, the color of the light is completely different: blue on one side and reddish on the other. I hope you will experience this as you move around the building.”
