Bright hostel in Indonesia Architecture 07.06.2022 Asymmetric red facade, metal mesh staircase and ergonomic use of space in the project of the Ismail Solehudin Architecture bureau. Ksenia Oshchepkova EmailPinterestVKonkakte EmailPinterestVKonkakte Indonesian architect Ismail Solehudin came up with the optimal layout for a hostel located on a small plot in a densely built-up area of the city of Bogor. Instead of building a traditional corridor-type building, he made a connecting element of the staircase, to the platforms of which all the bedrooms go. This made it possible to significantly save space and create cozy places for rest and communication in the stairwell area. According to Solehudin’s idea, the staircase hall performs not only its main function (connects rooms with each other), but also serves as a central communal space. The light, airy staircase made of metal mesh is well lit due to a large skylight in the roof. In the spans, the architect placed tables and benches where residents can relax, work, have a snack and chat with neighbors. Solehudin decided to emphasize the avant-garde structure of the building with bright colors and expressive forms: corrugated steel facades are made in red, and the combination of blocks with single-pitched and gable roofs forms a spectacular silhouette. The main building materials are concrete and red brick, which are in harmony with bright metal surfaces. Against the background of the red-brown walls, the white staircase seems even more elegant. The hostel has eleven compact bedrooms with functional furnishings. On the ground floor there are parking spaces, a laundry room and a shared storage room. Thanks to the pointed roofs and the indentation from neighboring buildings, all rooms are well ventilated, and the thoughtful arrangement of windows allows you to illuminate even those bedrooms whose side windows look at the wall.
