Multi-colored glass installation in London

An art object “Hymn to the Big Wheel” by British artist Liz West was installed in the Canary Wharf quarter in the east part of London. The project became part of the exhibition “Summer Lights” dedicated to natural lighting.

The installation consists of two octagons: a small figure is inside a large one. They are interconnected by iron partitions and a common platform.

The walls of the octagons are filled with multicolored glass: each fragment consists of three stripes. This creates an unusual mix of colors both inside and outside the composition. The art object looks especially impressive during the day, when it is illuminated by the rays of the sun. At such moments, the installation not only shimmers, but also casts bright highlights on the asphalt.

One of the walls of the large octagon is open: through it, viewers can go inside the object and become part of the installation. Moving there, people change their point of view and see new facets of the composition.
